The Tired Mom’s Guide To Good Sleep

It’s close to midnight and you’re scrolling mindlessly through your phone, exhausted, but too wired to sleep. You know you should sleep but it’s been a long day and this is the only quiet time you get, in the dead of night, when everyone else sleeps. We know exactly how you feel (been there, done that!). And that’s why we’ve put together this Tired Mom’s Guide To Good Sleep.

The last two years have been tough on all of us and with school and work moving into our homes, if there’s one thing that has suffered hugely, it’s the amount and quality of sleep we’ve been getting. A good night’s sleep is an integral part of staying healthy and compromising on sleep is known to increase stress, mess up hormonal balance and lead to a whole host of health issues. If you’ve been struggling with getting enough sleep, here are some tips that can help:

  • Try and stick to the same bedtime every night, even on holidays. It helps your body regulate its sleep cycle so you fall asleep faster and have a restful night’s sleep. Work in some alone time during the day, so you get your me time without compromising on sleep.
  • As hard as it is, avoid all screens at least an hour before bedtime. WhatsApp can wait!
  • A warm bath and some gentle stretching are great ways to relax before bedtime.
  • A soothing bedtime ritual, like a foot massage with your favorite moisturizer or listening to calming music can work wonders too.
  • Writing down all your worries on a piece of paper is a great habit to destress at bedtime. Add in gratitude journaling and a little meditation, even 5 minutes, and you’re priming yourself for deep, restful sleep.
